“I’ve saved this voicemail for well over two years now,” Benjamin explains. “It has been a personal inspiration for me because I still believe in what we can do when we work together. I still believe in hope.”
The radio spot, Benjamin’s first, went into rotation this week and can be heard on radio stations all across Columbia and at www.stevebenjamin.com.
Transcript for “Calling”
VOICEMAIL RECORDING: Hi, this is Senator Barack Obama trying to reach Steve Benjamin. Steve, if you could give me a call back.
STEVE BENJAMIN: I've saved this voice mail for over two years because it reminds me that when we unite behind a vision of hope and change, we can make history.
My name is Steve Benjamin and I'm running for Mayor of Columbia because I still believe in what we can do when we work together –and I still believe in hope.
Our city is suffering from rising crime, a poor economy, and a lack of strong leadership.
But my parents taught me that if you trust God, love your family, and serve your community you can overcome any obstacle.
I've spent my life doing just that and now I’m asking you to join me as we take on this new challenge to make this the safest, cleanest, and most promising city in America.
I'm Steve Benjamin. I’m running for Mayor of Columbia. And I’m calling on you to join me and on April 6th and we’ll make history again together.
