COLUMBIA, SC – Friday night’s snowstorm couldn’t stop Columbia mayoral candidate Steve Benjamin from taking his vision of A New Day for Columbia to the streets going door to door talking with residents in Columbia’s Historic Lower Waverly neighborhood today.
“It’s been a great day!” Benjamin said. “This is my favorite part of the campaign, getting out and talking with folks about what’s important to them. There was no way I was going to let a little snow get in the way of that.”
Benjamin and campaign volunteers began spent more than four hours canvassing the neighborhood and knocked on well over 100 doors.
“This is a great neighborhood and people here are really excited,” Benjamin said. “We’ve had some folks invite us in for hot chocolate and some who want to introduce us to their neighbors. We’ve had people stopping us in the street, getting out of their cars to say and how much they appreciate us being down here.”
“It’s really been a lot of fun. We even had a couple of snowball fights!”
Benjamin, who launched his grassroots campaign for mayor in August, has made reaching out to voters at neighborhood meetings and through door to door canvassing a major part of his strategy saying that voters deserve something more than the same old election routine they see year by year.
“Voters should know that I’m not your average candidate,” Benjamin said. “Some people talk a good game. I get out there and do the work.”
