Clyburn Endorses Benjamin

COLUMBIA, SC - U.S. House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn endorsed Steve Benjamin for Mayor of Columbia today saying that Benjamin will bring vision, hope, and change to our city.

"Steve Benjamin is not a business as usual politician and he will not be a business as usual mayor," Clyburn said. "Steve is a young man with extraordinary talents and he will bring creative and innovative leadership to South Carolina's Capital City."

Clyburn, who has represented South Carolina's 6th Congressional District since 1992, focused on Benjamin's dedication to Columbia's neighborhood organizations and public safety as two driving reasons behind his decision.

"He will support our neighborhood organizations and give our police officers and firefighters the tools they need to keep our homes and streets safe and secure," Clyburn said. "On April 6, we will elect a new mayor for Columbia and I have decided to cast my vote for Steve Benjamin."

Benjamin responded to the announcement calling it a true honor to be endorsed by a man of Clyburn's caliber and stature.

"Congressman Clyburn's long record of service to this community, this state, and this nation is undeniable," Benjamin said. "I am humbled by the trust he has placed in me."
