Going Green
Mayor
Benjamin is working hard to protect Columbia's unique natural beauty
and resources so our children and grandchildren can enjoy them for
generations to come.
Energy
efficient lights now illuminate city buildings and electric car
charging pods are encouraging greener ways to get to work. Over $110
million has been spent on improvements to and rehabilitation of our
water, sewer and stormwater systems to protect our waterways and
drinking water.
The
Southern Fried Fuel initiative has recycled nearly 400 gallons of used
cooking oil and the E-waste Recycling Program has kept over 13 tons of
electronics out of our landfills.
But there is so much more to be done. There was a time when Columbia was known as "The Garden City of the South." Mayor Benjamin believes, if we work together, it can be once again.
